Welcome to Ethnographic Money
Welcome to our web site. Here we will be featuring items of money – mostly copper or copper/brass mix which were used by the tribes in Africa as money for many hundreds of years. Whilst our focus is on the many and varied items from Africa, we have ‘wandered’ a little to the varied and interesting items which were used in the East as money since the days before Christ.
The art has also captivated our interest so you will see items offered for sale which we have found irresistible! Such as the beautiful Coptic processional crosses, cloth, masks, statuary etc.

We are normally at Charing Cross Collectors Market (London) every Saturday.
We generally bring a fair selection of objects which were either traded bracelet types or indeed many which had a dual purpose of being ceremonial and a display of wealth.
Some of the early ‘slave’ manillas are interesting, along with the large manilla shaped copper items used as a money storage item.
Try to come and see us and we will be happy to talk to you and let you share this amazing world of early African money
